Little is known about the artist and the subject matter, whether it is painted form life or from the imagination. The piece was named “A View of a Lake” by Salon. What is known is that this piece is most certainly of Danish (Scandinavian) origin and was purchased in Paris in the early 2000s. What is striking about the work is that it is evidenced that other artists practiced and experimented with tonality to capture an atmosphere in their work.  The artist’s name HOR(?) / HORD appears in the lower right of the canvas and by the dexterity of his hand, suggests that some training in art was received by this unknown painter. An interesting panorama; moody and thought provoking, subtle yet striking.
