Calder’s work for the Baliff Airlines in the 1970s left behind a rich legacy of Calder’s creative talents and the industry needed to tap into popular culture and reinvent it for a more commercial savvy 1970s. This work comprises of three sections, resembling a travel satchel.  Inside there is an abundance of text to convey to the collector the hows and whys, of both the airline and Calder’s engagement, while the flap is blazoned with serpentine waves and a rising sun. Unmistakably Calder, the work resists being kitsch largely because of its iconic use of shapes and colours; “trademarks” that Calder had made very much his own.
