This proud warrior is a magnificent example of Drewes’ late figurative style. Known fundamentally for his printmaking, Drewes was the artist who is credited for bringing the influence of the Bauhus to the United States. Although, where this particular work was published and by whom it was published by is unclear, however, this unique proof sought to immortalise the Indigenous leaders of the US, with Proudfoot (a fictional name it seems) being one of many visages he committed to the woodblock.
