Helion’s early work was heavily influenced by Gris, Picasso and Braque and was, in his artistic juvenilia, a Cubist in style and principle. Those influences are apparent in the linocut offered here, in particular the personified nature of the configuration. Essentially abstract in form, there is an inner life that dominates Helion’s vision. Anthropomorphic while inanimate simultaneously, this linocut defines the paradox that is inherent in Helion’s artistic practice, and this linocut represents outstanding quality and value for the beginning collector. The work is in excellent condition given its age.
